The RICOH GR IV Monochrome is exclusively designed for monochrome photography,
With the exceptional image quality, quick response, and outstanding portability that the GR series is known for, the GR IV Monochrome incorporates a monochrome-dedicated image sensor. By eliminating the color filter used to acquire color information, as well as the interpolation process required to generate color images, the camera can fully draw out the capabilities of the high-performance GR lens, delivering refined rendering and rich tonal gradation.
The built-in red filter enables more distinctive monochrome photography, and new Image Control options – dedicated to monochrome imaging – provide deep and diverse monochrome expressions.
Faithful light capture with Monochrome-dedicated CMOS image sensor
With the pursuit of the ultimate monochrome expression, the camera incorporates a monochrome-dedicated APS-C CMOS image sensor. The brightness information acquired by each pixel is applied directly to images without interpolation processing. This achieves nuanced detail, high resolution, and exceptional reproduction of tones for outstanding monochrome rendering.
GR ENGINE 7
To maximize the performance of the monochrome-dedicated image sensor, a new image- processing engine was developed. It performs none of the interpolation processing that is indispensable in color image sensors, allowing it to make full use of the brightness information captured by each pixel. This delivers high-definition and nuanced detail as well as rich tonal depth.
Unified overall color and texture evokes the world of black-and-white photography
The magnesium-alloy body, as well as the shutter release button and ring cap, are finished in matte black, with subdued sheen, deep texture, and a soft tactile feel. The semi-gloss black front GR logo, the white illumination of the power button, and other design details express the monochrome worldview throughout the camera.
Contrast control with built-in Red Filter
Red filters can produce images with strong visual impact, for example, by darkening the tones of a blue sky to enhance contrast with clouds, or by rendering red subjects brighter to make them stand out more clearly. A red filter incorporated within the lens unit enables expanded image expression through the use of color even in monochrome photography.
An Intuitive Gateway to Monochrome
Functions you will want to use most in monochrome shooting are placed where they can be accessed most directly and comfortably. The Fn button is assigned to switching the red filter on and off. The down button of the direct keys is assigned to Image Control, which unlocks a wide range of monochrome renderings.
